Emilia Romagna, Italy
Emilia Romagna is a region in Northern Italy with two historic areas, Emilia and Romagna that are among the wealthiest developed localities in Europe. The region lies to the south of the Po River, with low mountains near Tuscany. The mixture of Renaissance cities, art, cultural aspects and the oldest university in the Western World combine with agriculture and industry to create a high quality of life in the region. Tourism at the beautiful Adriatic "Riviera" resorts is popular, or monuments such as the Castle Estense in Ferrara; or the cities of the region where ancient buildings can be found from the Byzantine period, as well as magnificent medieval buildings. Explore their Etruscan heritage dating back to the 8th century BC and the Gallic invasion that predated the Romans may be found. The region is also renowned for production of the Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and Ducati. They are also renowned for cuisine, having developed pasta and produced "prosciutto" and Parmesan cheese among many other tasty delights.
